ACADEMIC BOOSTER ACTIVITIES
Freshman Breakfast early December
After the publication of the first quarter honor roll each year, the freshmen who have achieved honor roll status and their parents are recognized with a breakfast. This provides immediate recognition of their success at the high school, as well as an opportunity for socializing.
Ice Cream in Celebration of Effort October, February, April
Every quarter, MMU faculty and staff members are given two coupons to give out to students who have made extra efforts in any area, not just academics. Students receiving a coupon can redeem it for a dish of ice cream during lunch on the specified day in the cafeteria.
Honor Roll Rewards all year
Students who are on the honor roll are eligible to participate in this rewards program. Local businesses offer special discounts and free things to MMU students who are on the honor roll. Examples of rewards include free cookies, sandwiches, copies, and discounts on clothing. Click here for details.
Recognition Night early June
Students who received an average of 3.5 or better for 2 out of the first 3 quarters of the year are invited to attend this event. A motivational speaker gives a 10-15 minute speech to the students, parents, and faculty in attendance. Students receive an Academic Excellence patch or pin and a certificate celebrating their achievements. A dessert reception follows.
Staff Appreciation Lunch two times a year
Academic Boosters organizes a special lunch during exam week in January and June to show appreciation for all the MMU staff. Food is donated by parents of MMU students.
Teacher Incentive Grants March/April
Incentive grants are made available for the MMU faculty to assist in the expansion of curriculum, the creation of a special project, or the development of a significantly different or unique program. The grant is directed at enriching the academic lives of all MMU students. Previously, grants have been awarded in math, history, English, science, music, arts, and library acquisition.
Lasagna Dinner Open House Night
This is our only fund raiser. The dinner is held right before the September Open House at MMU, and the funds are used to support our activities during the year. This popular meal features lasagna of all kinds, green salad, fresh bread, and pie for dessert. We need parents to donate food, solicit donations from other parents, and help set up and serve.
Help is needed for setting up and serving at the Open House Lasagna Dinner, Freshman Breakfast, Staff Appreciation Lunches, and Recognition Night. Food donations are welcomed for the Staff Appreciation Lunches. Help is also needed to scoop ice cream during the Ice Cream for Effort days.
All meetings will begin
at 6:30 pm.
