MMU ORIENTATION ANNOUNCEMENTS
Freshman Orientation, Tuesday, August 28, 2012 is a full day of Freshman Only Activities. A day to become fully acclimated to the building, your classes, and all the programs available here at Mount Mansfield Union High School. Orientation Workshop Leaders, or OWLS, will lead ninth graders on a day full of activities designed specifically for new students.
Following the morning activities and a delicious lunch, students will be bussed to exciting Orientation Trips - activities designed to integrate Camels Hump students with their counterparts from Browns River.
The Day is capped off by a BBQ, below the school, on the Mount Mansfield Athletic Complex. Parents are invited to join their children and meet the students, teachers, and administrators who will school their students for the next four years.

Location: Long Trail beginning at Bolton Notch Road to the Jonesville Bridge.
Description: A challenging and exciting hike, this section of the Long Trail was chosen specifically for advanced hikers. Terrain features and steep hills make this a difficult hike, but the views and immersion in nature are more than a reward for hard work on the trail.

Hike Level: Easy - 3 hoursPRESTON POND HIKE
Location: Preston Pond Stage Road
Description: The Nebraska Notch hike has a gentle easy start, passing a beaver pond area. When you reach the lodge there are awesome views overlooking Moscow. On the way back you can explore caves via the Clarabow Trail.

Hike Level: Hard - 3 hoursBUTLER LODGE HIKE
Location: Nebraska Notch Road
Description: This trail begins with rolling terrain, but quickly morphs into a constant uphill, and doesn’t stop for a mile and a half. At this point you reach Butler Lodge, which is a great place to rest before the final jaunt to the top. From the Lodge, there are two ways to reach the summit. This hike is great for anyone who thinks a trip to the top of Mt. Mansfield would be a nice way to kick off the school year. The view from the top is amazing.

Hike Level: Easy - 2 hoursMILLS RIVERSIDE PARK HIKE
Location: Mills Riverside Park, Underhill
Description: When you get out of the car you cross the covered bridge and head toward the Pavilion. Once there, you turn right on the loop trail. You start with a small climb up a hill which opens up to a large field, which you travel and go for another half mile in a wooded area. Turn left on the field loop trial. In addition there are many fields so you can do games and activities at the end or beginning of the hike.

Location: Bolton Cliffs off Bolton Notch RoadROCK CLIMBING
Directions: From Route 2 in Richmond go east. Take a left onto Bolton Notch Road. Leave students on pull off half a mile up hill. There is a turn around just past here at the sand pit.
Description: A full 21/2 hours of exciting rock climbs, this activity will get start your heart pumping and induce your fear of heights. In the end, however, there couldn't be a more fun way to meet friends, build teamwork skills, and have fun.

(802) 655-2720Directions: Travel South on Browns Trace Road toward Richmond. Turn right onto Governor Peck Road. Turn Left onto River Road/VT 117. Turn left onto Rt. 2 and get on 1-89 North. Take Exit 16 toward Winooski/Colchester. Turn right off exit Ramp. Take first right onto Lower Mountain View Drive.
Description: Yankee Lanes always offers a fun experience for anyone. With disco balls, and wild lights, they set the tone for a fun time. This truly does offer four hours of fun.

Location: Waterbury Center - Green Mountain Disc Golf ClubWATERBURY DISC GOLF
Directions: Left on Browns Trace, Right on Governor Peck Road, left on Rt. 2. Take I - 89 Sought. Waterbury Exit, turn left on Rt. 100 North. The village of Waterbury Center is located just east of VT Route 100.
Description: The Waterbury golf course is well designed to obtain maximum playability. The game, played just like golf, only with a Frisbee, combines both the physical aspects of throwing the Frisbee and the mental aspects of choosing the right shot.

Location: West Bolton Golf CourseWEST BOLTON GOLF
Directions: Turn left out of MMU. Drive 2 miles and turn left onto Nashville Road. Follow Nashville for about 3.5 miles and take right hand turn into golf course.
Description: Which Freshman is the next Tiger Woods? Well we are about to find out. Play West Bolton's premier 18 hole course with your friends and teachers. A challenging game of skill and decision making, the student with the strongest mental approach will take the coveted Orientation Day Golf Championship.

Location: Indian Brook, EssexKAYAKING AND CANOEING
Directions: Take a left out of MMU. Take first right onto Lee River. Turn left onto VT 15. Take left onto Center Road. Travel for 1.2 miles and take right onto Old Stage Road. Take left onto Indian Brook. Must Obtain Permit From Essex Town Office Parks & Rec. located above police station across from EHS.
You will need to make 2 trips to drop off canoe's and Kayacks.
Description: A fun two and a half hours of kayaking and canoeing for water enthusiasts. Learn how to pilot a canoe, or hone your skills as a Master Paddler. Races will in sue.

Location: Mobbs Valley, JerichoMOUNTAIN BIKING
Directions: Take left from MMU. Bike through Jericho Center on Browns Trace. Take a right onto Barber Farm Road. Take left onto Fitzsimmonds Road. Trail head is a mile down the road. There will be signs for it.
Description: Network of trails to explore and all end up at the starting place. Left side of road has challenging trails as well.
