FRESHMAN 2011MMU Football Team Description
The MMU football program is excited and honored to enter into its first year in Division I. In our first seven varsity seasons, we have made the play-offs five times and have been fortunate enough to make the state finals three times. This is a huge testament to the coaching staff and the dedication of our athletes. We currently have 77 student athletes in the program and we are all excited to be able to practice on the MMU campus for the first time in our teams’ history.
FOOTBALL ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Chittenden East Wolverine flag football team will be playing at half time of the MMU High School football games two time this fall. The first scrimmage for the Wolverines will be on September 3rd and the second game will be on September 17th. This is a fun family event and all flag players get to see the Cougars play for FREE!

In 2001, MMU began their first season as a Club sport where Marty served as Head Football Coach. After five very successful years, Marty again leads the MMU football team as they enter their first season as a Vermont Division I Varsity team.
Marty is also the proud father of three beautiful children and is fortunate to have a very supportive wife.

Coach Gay grew up in N. Westminster, VT and graduated from Bellows Falls Union High School in 1985. Coach Gay played Football, Basketball and Baseball for the Bellows Falls Terriers. He attended Western New England University in Springfield, Massachusetts where he played Football in the East Coast Athletic Conference and ultimately transferred and received an Engineering Degree from Colorado State University/Pueblo in 1992. He resides in Jericho with wife Colleen and their two children, Brooks and Madison. He currently provides oversight of the Chittenden East Youth Football Association as President and is the Offensive Coordinator for the Varsity Football team at MMU. Quote "great coaches at the youth and high school levels emphasizing dedication, hard work and sportsmanship help define who I am today and I feel a lifelong obligation to the sport I respect the most."

Coach Fletcher grew up in Montpelier where his love of football began at the youth level. He began coaching in 2004 as part of the first ever Wolverines Flag Football Program. Manny part of the CEYFA program for 5 years as a flag, 5/6 and 7/8 coach. In 2009 Manny was asked by Coach Richards to be part of the coaching staff for the first Freshman Football Team at MMU. Coach Fletcher was Co-Head Coach of the JV Team in 2010. For the 2011 season Coach Fletcher will work with the Varsity Offensive and Defensive line as an assistant Coach. He lives in Huntington VT with wife Vicki and two children Dylan,16, and Ana, 13.

Mike Mazzella has been on the Mount Mansfield Football staff since 2009. While on the staff, he has served as a varsity assistant coach, JV defensive coordinator, and this year he will be the head coach for the JV team along with being the defensive coordinator.
Mike grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida where he played 4 years of football for Cardinal Newman as a center. He moved to Albany, New York in 2005 to pursue a teaching degree at The College of Saint Rose. During his time in college, Mike was an intern of football operations and special assistant to the head coach for the Albany Conquest (now the Albany Firebirds) in 2006. Mike graduated in 2009 from The College of Saint Rose in Albany as a double major in Biology and Chemistry Education. He currently lives in Williston with his Fiance Kelli and their two cats, Chloe and Marie. Mike is also a Science Teacher at Vergennes Union High School

Roy lives in Underhill Center with my wife Rorie, daughter Anna, and son Kyle. Roy owns Treetop Builders, a construction company specializing in custom homes, timber frames and remodeling. Roy grew up in Haddonfield, NJ and graduated from the University of Delaware with a BS in Geology in 1980. Roy has been a head coach of the Mansfield Nordic Ski Club since 2002 and enjoy all kinds of skiing and biking.

Graduated from BYU-Idaho in 2010 with a BS in Exercise Physiology. Played college football for 3 years as a center, defensive tackle, and linebacker. Chris currently works as a chemical analyst. Chris played football, lacrosse and indoor track for Liverpool (Syracuse, NY) High School. Chris has been married for 4 years and enjoys hiking, skiing, and kayaking.
